Very fine portrait drawing of this noted 16th Century composer. Signed
in pencil "E.F. Burney" at lower right margin.
Le Jeune was "one of the most prolific and original composers of the
second half of the 16th Century and one of the chief exponents of musique
mesuree a l'antique; his application of this and other theories of musical
and textural relationships had a lasting influence on French sacred and secular
music" (The New Grove Dictionary, Vol. 10, p. 647).
Burney was an accomplished artist and friend of Sir Joshua Reynolds. He enjoyed
a considerable reputation, and his works are held at both the Victoria &
Albert and at the British Museum.
