It's difficult to believe it's been twenty-five years since Ibanez introduced the S Series electric guitars - my how time flies when you're pickin' and grinnin'. When they were first introduced in the '80's, they were called the Sabre series, but that didn't last. Another guitar company had already trademarked that name, so Ibanez shortened the name to "S", and we've been calling it that ever since.
It was an instant hit with us, not only because of the excellent Ibanez build quality, but the disign and weight of the instrument. It was light, curvaceous, and had a very fast neck. We'd never seen anything like. And here we are today with the 25th Anniversary Reissue in bold, bright, neon colors, and we think it's even better than the original 1980's "Sabre" original. Let's take a look at the new Ibanez S1XXV 25th Anniversary Limited Edition electric guitar.
The fluorescent colors of green and yellow are definitely bold and bright, quite unlike the originals. But they fit right in with today's bold and dynamic players. When you strap on a fluorescent guitar, you mean business. But that sculpted mahogany body and fast Wizard III neck are ever present; this guitar is a joy to play.
The humbucking INF1 neck pickup is responsive, with a warm classic tone and added output, while the INF2 bridge pickup has enhanced mid-range output, with an Alnico-5 magnet for individual string clarity and excellent dynamics. The INFS1 middle pickup produces what you would expect from a well made single-coil pickup.
The standard knife-edge pivots on the original 1987 tremolo have been replaced with the ZR bridge that features ball bearings for a smooth and stable arming. It also includes the Zero Point System for enabling perfect return to pitch. This unique system stabilizes the bridge and insures tuning stability by consistently returning the tremolo to the center point (or zero point).
In addition to the usual tremolo springs, the Zero Point System features two additional springs which insures the bridge’s return to the center point and can be quickly set by hand; i.e there’s no need for a hex wrench.
Finally, a locking tremolo that stays in tune when a string breaks!
