The VOX VT80PLUS is a gigging amp with modeling technology and gives you the best of both worlds - tube warmth and solid state reliability.
The Brits call them "valves" and we call them tubes, but no matter what name you want to use, tubes produce that familiar classic, warm tone. The VOX Valvetronic+ guitar amps have Valve Reactor technology (a combination of tubes and transistors), and use a 12AX7 (ECC83) tube in the power amp section of the amp, rather than in the preamp section like some guitar amps. This allows the amp to produce an authentic tube sound.
The original VOX Valve Reactor circuitry made its debut in 2001, but since then, it has undergone continual renewal in response to the latest developments in amplifier technology in order to meet the needs of today's guitarist.
Twenty-five high-quality effects are built-in the VT80+, and you can use up to four effects including noise reduction simultaneously (or up to five effects if you use multiple effects mode). You can create a sound using the desired amp and effect, and save it in the memory as one of eight programs (two banks x four channels). Programs can be switched while you perform, either from the top panel or from a foot switch connected to the rear panel (Channel Select mode). For each amp model, three preset programs – Basic, Effect and Song – are provided, giving you a total of 99 programs (Preset mode). The song programs reproduce the tones of classic hits played by famous guitarists.
Other useful features on the VT80+ include: manual mode for use as a conventional amp, built-in auto tuner, AUX in jack to connect audio devices, and a power level control. An optional VFS5 foot switch that lets you switch programs or turn effects on/off is also available.
All modeling amps take a little getting use to, simply because they're so versatile. Without looking at the manual, I plugged in and gave a quick listen to some amp models, and I was pleasantly surprised. They sound like what the label says, "metal" "AC30", etc. Sound is subjective, so you'll have to make your own conclusions, but this thing screams!
