The CP4 stage is the latest professional digital piano from Yamaha, and they call it "the best stage piano we have ever made." When serious pianists demo a piano in our store, they're interested in two key points: sound and touch. Let's take a look at both on the CP4.
The CP4 features voices from Yamaha's Premium Collection of hand crafted grand pianos, including the CFX, CFIIIS and the S6. These sounds were hand selected by Yamaha artists for the CP4, and are sure to please even the most critical player. But that's not all.
Yamaha greatly expanded the waveform data used in the CP4 compared to previous models. This enables smoother keyboard control over changes in timbre, and as a result it emulates the versatility of the instrument it is modeled after, the CFX.
To round out the set of professional voices, the CP4 Stage also includes vintage electric pianos with VCM stomp box effects and a variety of bass, clav, organ, strings and pad sounds from the Yamaha Motif synthesizer. A sampling of the sounds included are the classic DX7 Rhodes sound, CP80 electric grand, Wurlitzer electric piano and many others.
Voice Category buttons lets you call up the sounds you need quickly and easily—you can even store your favorite sounds for each category. In addition to all the great piano voices, a variety of bass, clavinet, organ, strings, and pad sounds based on the sounds of the MOTIF synthesizer round out the voice library, so you’re ready for any musical situation.
Large lighted buttons make it easy to split and layer sounds even on dark stages, allowing you to switch from a full piano, to a piano voice layered with strings, or piano with a split bass sound. The Main Solo function lets you go back to playing piano across the entire keyboard the touch of a button.
WEIGHTED GRADED HAMMER ACTION
Yamaha paid close attention to the playability of the keyboard, and took advantage of the performance qualities of wooden keys with a Graded Hammer action, a new feature in the CP series. The action on the CP4 is Yamaha's Graded Hammer Wooden Key action with synthetic ivory key tops. This professional action provides authentic piano touch and response.
Yamaha's innovative GH3 keyboard has three sensors: in addition to two sensors to detect keystroke strength, it includes Yamaha’s original Damper Sensor. This enables you to use advanced techniques such as playing the same note repeatedly with perfect articulation, previously only possible on a grand piano, which blends sounds without the use of the damper pedal.
You also enjoy the keyboard touch of a grand piano, including keys with weight gradations – heavy in the lower end and lighter in the higher end. The NW (Natural Wood) keyboard, with the same structure as the GH3 keyboard, and synthetic ivory key tops also provide the feel of a grand piano.
We should all take notice when Yamaha says the CP4 is the best digital stage piano they've ever made. They've never said that before!
