Hemen SurSringar
Sursringar is a relative of the Seniya rabab. The skin of the resonator had been replaced by a wooden sound board, the strings have been converted to steel thus allowing for better sustain. The fingerboard was covered with a thin sheet of chrome steel similar to that of a sorod. The sursringar became a distinct improvement over the rabab with regard to the tonal quality. The instrument is near extinction but the tradition lives on with Joydeep Ghosh.
