KanaiLal Surbahar

This early 70s surbahar was built during the peak of the KaniLal and Brothers career. With the recent passing of Murari Adhikari it is no longer possible ot obtain such a fine instrument. This particular instrument fashioned out of Burmese teak, it perhaps the best surbahar I have yet to see, it's rival being a vintage Rikhi Ram surbahar in the collection of Sri Patric Marx.

Although the upper tumba of this surbahar is spun wood, it is very thin, provides a nice amount of extra resonance, and does not affect the overall feel of the instrument.

Even the badges on KanaiLal instrument were fancy, often featuring nice engraving as in the case of this one.

This "grape leaf" style carving here was in fact started by Kanialal, it on such a fine instrument you can see how well they perfected this skill.
