SHIME DAIKO
The high pitched, rapid-fire rhythms are played on the shime, a relatively small, double-sided drum with a thick heavy duty shell, rope or bolt tuned. We usually have a couple of different types to choose from in stock.
NAGADO DAIKO
The large, heavyweight, fat barrel-style shell, skinned on both sides powerhouse drum of the taiko ensemble. It comes in a range of sizes with head diameters ranging from 10 to even 40 or 50 inches across. The largest of these drums are often referred to as Wa Daiko. We keep in stock drums in the 3-6 sun range, that's Japanese for between 39 and 48cm, but smaller or larger drums can be special ordered.

HIRADO DAIKO
The small, shallow, lower pitched, lighter-weight, double-sided drum is the Hirado. They take the role of the tenors in the taiko drum 'choir'. This drum is good for beginner taiko drummers because it is isn't as heavy as the shime, it sounds good played alone for practicing, and is often less expensive to purchase.
