Piano Workshop Featuring Tom Gerou

Tom Gerou

Tom Gerou

On Thursday, July 28 beginning at 9:00 AM, Andy’s Music is sponsoring an Alfred Piano Teacher Workshop featuring composer and arranger Tom Gerou.

Mr. Gerou composes in a variety of genres including masterworks, original supplemental music, pop and methods. The combination of his production and composition experience allows Tom to showcase the diversity of materials available from his publisher, Alfred Music. He will discuss new materials and techniques to help revitalize your piano studio.

After studying music in his native North Dakota, Tom graduated with honors from the University of  Southern California, where he received a music degree in composition. He continued his education as a Charles Ditson Scholar at Yale University, receiving his masters of music degree in composition.

He is one of the primary arrangers in 27 books for Alfred’s Basic Piano Library’s Top Hits, Greatest Hits and Patriotic Solos series. As a composer, Tom is perhaps best known to piano teachers for his solos Northern Lights and Whiskers and Fins, which were chosen for the 2001-2003 National Federation of Music Club’s Junior Festival Bulletin.

Billy McLaughlin

Billy McLaughlin in concert at Andy's Music, Mobile, AL.

It’s been well over a decade since Billy McLaughlin performed at Andy’s Music. It was back in the late 1990’s, and he packed the house. It was an SRO concert with fans coming from all over the central Gulf Coast.

Billy was a right-handed player then. Today he’s a lefty.

For twenty years, he amazed audiences around the world with his complex and rhythmic music. In 2001, Billy was diagnosed with Focal Dystonia, an incurable neuromuscular disease that rendered him unable to play his own music. By 2002, Billy McLaughlin’s career was over. He lost everything; his career, endorsements, home, and marriage – everything!

In 2006, Billy began a comeback and is doing the unthinkable – relearning his songs left handed. He has resumed an international schedule of concert appearances and speaking engagements. His remarkable comeback is captured in the documentary film Changing Keys (airing on PBS 2010) and a concert film called Coming Back Alive featuring McLaughlin with string orchestra and a reunion of his longtime rock band.

Billy McLaughlin is astounding audiences once again with both his story and his music, and resides in his home state of Minnesota where he is proudly raising two boys.

Welcome back Billy!
