Penelope House Benefit

Toni Ann Torrans, Executive Director of Penelope House, Nick, and John Edd Thompson

The Penelope House “Strings for Beans” Benefit, sponsored by Andy’s Music and D’Addario Strings, had a good turnout this past Saturday, October 16.

For the price of a few canned goods, Andy’s customers had their guitars restrung with D’Addario strings. A large table full of canned goods, pasta, and paper products were donated. Even a few local celebrities made an appearance to give their support to a very good cause.

Strings for Beans

Strings for Beans
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Andy’s Music and D’Addario Strings have teamed up to stock the food pantry at Penelope House.

On Saturday, October 16, 2010, bring us some canned goods for Penelope House, and we’ll restring your guitar for FREE.

The fine print:  This offer is limited to one 6-string guitar per customer – no tremolo systems. Acoustic guitars will be strung with D’Addario EJ16’s,  and electric guitars EXL110’s.

Penelope House is a non-profit organization established in 1979 by the Daughters of Penelope to help victims of domestic violence regain social and economic independence. The Family Violence Center is the only shelter for battered women and children in Mobile, Alabama, although services currently span across Mobile and Washington counties in Alabama.

Services offered by Penelope House include advocacy, community education, counseling, on-site medical care, schools prevention education, transitional living, and victims’ support groups.

In addition to its services, a 24-hour crisis line (251) 342-8994 was established by Penelope House to provide prompt counseling, information and referral services to individuals in abusive and/or violent situations.
