How Andy’s Music Was Almost on the Movie Obsession 🎬

Sometimes, a silly joke on social media turns into a mind-blowing full-circle moment. If you follow us on Facebook, you might have caught a recent post of ours that led to one of the coolest pieces of Andy's Music trivia we've ever stumbled across.

Here is the story of how our store was secretly connected to a hit indie horror movie all along, and we didn't even know it! If you’ve seen the viral horror-thriller Obsession, directed by Curry Barker, you know that a lot of the story unfolds inside a local record and instrument shop called Cassell's Music.

Cassell's Music features a very distinct, retro-style uniform shirt that the characters wear throughout the film. We loved the look so much that we decided to have a little fun with it. We designed a spoof of the famous Cassell's shirt, swapped out their name, and proudly slapped the Andy’s Music logo right on the front for a funny social media post.

We thought it was just a solid inside joke for the movie buffs in our community. We had no idea what was coming next. Shortly after the post went live, we got a comment from none other than the director himself, Curry Barker. He didn't just drop a laughing emoji, though. He dropped a massive piece of behind-the-scenes trivia that blew our minds.

According to Curry, in the original script for Obsession, the store wasn't called Cassell's Music at all. It was written as Andy’s Music!

Why Andy's? As it turns out, Curry wrote our store into the original script as a tribute to his good friend, Joshua Davis. At the time Curry was writing the movie, Joshua was actually working right here at Andy’s Music!

Even though the name eventually changed to Cassell's Music, the DNA of our store was baked right into the original story. So, when we made our parody shirt mashing up Andy's Music with the movie's fictional store, we were actually bringing the script full circle without even realizing it.

We love a good plot twist, and this is definitely one for the books. We want to send a huge shoutout to Curry Barker for sharing this awesome behind-the-scenes fact with us, and to Joshua Davis for representing the Andy's Music family!

If you haven't seen Obsession yet, go check it out!  And when you see the crew on screen in their uniform shirts, just know that in another universe, they're repping Andy's!

The film is rated R (Restricted) meaning it contains adult material and anyone under 17 requires an accompanying parent or adult guardian to watch it in a theater.

While we absolutely love this awesome behind-the-scenes trivia, Andy’s Music wants to remind everyone that "Obsession" is a thriller intended purely for entertainment purposes. We definitely do not condone any of the behavior displayed by the characters in the film. Keep the drama on the screen, and keep the good vibes in the music store!
