Juan Camilo Peña Herrera

Orchestral Strings Instructor

A native of Cali, Colombia, Juan Camilo Peña-Herrera holds a Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from Bellas Artes - Conservatorio Antonio Maria Valencia in Cali. Mr. Peña has performed in numerous festival orchestras and chamber music concerts throughout South America. He has played with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Cali and a guest musician with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Medellin and the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia.

Mr. Peña's passion for teaching and research led him along new pathways in his music including teaching at different schools, musical institutions, and social foundations. In 2014, He moved to Barranquilla, Colombia, and started teaching at the Universidad del Norte and the Universidad del Atlantico as an Associate Professor of Viola and Music Theory. His specialization is in pedagogy and the musical philosophy of the Suzuki Method. Also, he is an active member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and The American Viola Society.

Currently, Mr. Peña has a Master of Music Performance in Viola and Orchestral Conducting at the University of Southern Mississippi.
