The MXR Bass Compressor has a complete set of controls that make it easy to fine-tune your sound, from subtle peak limiting to hard squashed compression effects. Let’s take a quick look at these features:
- ATTACK knob controls reaction time of compression
- RELEASE knob controls how quickly your signal returns to its uncompressed gain level
- RATIO sets the degree of compression, from mild 4 (4:1) to extreme 20 (20:1)
- INPUT knob controls the gain level of the input signal
- OUTPUT knob controls overall effect volume
- CONTROLS METER display shows gain reduction level and compressor response time
- FOOTSWITCH toggles effect on/bypass (blue LED indicates on)
Constant Headroom Technology (CHT) in the MXR Bass Compressor gives you plenty of headroom and clarity in your performance. This totally transparent compressor allows the full dynamic range of your bass to shine through until your signal reaches the compression threshold, which is indicated by ten, highly visible gain-reduction status LEDs.
What is a compressor? In simple terms, a compressor controls the dynamic range of your bass by making loud sounds softer and soft sounds louder. The compression, or “squeezing” tightens the difference between a louder bass signal and a softer signal, producing a much more consistent level of output.
