When Dr. Rousseau couldn't find an alto saxophone mouthpiece to recommend to his classical students, he decided to design his own. That's when he designed the "R" series Rousseau mouthpiece, inspired by a mouthpiece given to him by Marcel Mule. The NC4 was developed to complement the "R" series mouthpiece, however, quickly took over as the most popular Rousseau model.
