Andy’s Music Named One of World’s
Top 100 Music Stores

Mobile, AL (June 17, 2016) — Andy’s Music in Mobile, Alabama has once again been named one of the world’s Top 100 musical instrument retailers. Andy’s has won this award five out of the last six years. The global association for the music products industry, the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), will formally present Andy’s Music with the Top 100 honor during the industry’s upcoming trade event, Summer NAMM in Nashville.

“To be a five time winner is definitely an honor, and our dedicated staff made this happen,” said James Andrews, Vice President, at Andy’s Music Inc.

Businesses vying for Top 100 status are evaluated for their innovative approaches to retail and for employing effective strategies in marketing and customer engagement. An independent panel of judges carefully reviews entries to determine winners in each category and to select the Dealer of the Year. Dubbed the ‘retail Oscars’ by Music Inc. magazine, NAMM’s Top 100 Dealer Awards spotlights the industry’s very best music product retailers.

Brother and sister, James Andrews and Linsey Andrews Abraham, are fourth generation merchants. Their great-grandfather Christos Andreoglou, who emigrated from Smyrna, Greece in 1910, had a general store and tavern on Bloodgood Street in Mobile. Their grandfather Jimmy had a restaurant, Andy’s Grill on Broad Street. Their father Jimmy started Andy’s Music in 1977.

Piano Teacher Workshop Featuring Carolyn Miller

Andy’s Music is hosting a Willis Music Piano Teacher Workshop with Carolyn Miller on Friday, July 22, beginning at 9:30 AM.

The workshop is titled “Beating The Practice-Time Blues”, and Mrs. Miller will show you how to encourage good practice habits with great music, which in turn makes lesson times more productive. Refreshments will be served and each participant will receive special discounts on select Wills music along with a packet of free lesson material.

Carolyn’s music teaches essential technical skills, is remarkably fun to play, and appeals to both children and adults.  Many of her compositions appear on contest lists, including the NFMC Festivals Bulletin.  Well-known television personality Regis Philbin performed her pieces “Rolling River” and “Fireflies” in 1992 and 1993 on national television.

Carolyn Miller graduated with honors from the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati and earned a Master’s Degree from Xavier University. She was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda.  She has taught piano to students of all ages for many years, both privately and in classroom settings.  Carolyn regularly presents workshops throughout the United States and is often asked to adjudicate.  She has conducted at ensemble concerts, piano camps and festivals, and has been commissioned to compose music for these special events.

In her church, Carolyn directs a large choir and plays the piano for special services.  She enjoys spending time with her family and especially her seven grandchildren, for whom she has composed seven solos.

Carolyn is listed in the Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Women.
