Boasting a passive pickup design, the K and K Pure Classic acoustic pickup doesn't need a preamp to boost the signal; in other words, its signal is strong enough to drive your guitar amplifier or PA system mixer. However, if you want more volume or maximum control of your sound, use a preamp.
The passive thumbwheel volume control mounts on the inner edge of the soundhole. It does not require a battery and easily allows you to turn the pickup volume down or off, but not up.
